Motivation

The purpose of contract definition is to:

• Create positive constrains that drive the teams to a desired outcome,
• and to se up the communication patterns across the organisation.

With no proper contracts defined, the company struggles with cooperation, prioritization, or both.

Roadmap delivery and balance contracts

In order to ensure the teams deliver on their roadmap each quarter, we have to pre-agree on the workforce allocation.

3 ratios

One of patterns is to create a contracts describing 3 ratios: how much effort we plan to spend on the:

1. Product roadmap (product-let improvements)
2. Technical roadmap (non-functional requirements, integration feasibility, technical improvements)
3. Off-roadmap (incident management and operational work)
